Brembo took advantage of the 7th round of the Superbike Championship World SBK at Misano to announce the introduction of Brembo Hyction™ carbon-ceramic brake disc technology from 2027.
The Superbike World Championship and the Italian manufacturer are thus opening a new chapter in the competition of production-derived motorcycles, with WorldSBK becoming the exclusive platform for the debut of this new material in motorcycle competition.
From 2027, Brembo will also become the exclusive supplier of braking systems for the WorldSBK category, thus reinforcing an already historic presence in the paddock, where the majority of teams currently use its products.
This development marks a change in the championship's braking philosophy, in line with the evolution of modern production motorcycles and the motorcycle industry as a whole.
What is this about?
Brembo's carbon-ceramic disc design is generally based on a carbon fiber-reinforced ceramic core, coated on each friction surface with a ceramic layer, to offer superior durability and efficiency.
Gregorio Lavilla, Executive Director of WorldSBK
“WorldSBK represents the most direct link between competition and the motorcycles used by enthusiasts worldwide. By extending our collaboration with Brembo to this new technical chapter, we are reinforcing the relevance of the championship as a platform where innovations developed in racing contribute to the future of production motorcycles.”
I would also like to thank the manufacturers, teams, and the FIM for their collaboration and support in defining a technical direction that allows WorldSBK to remain closely linked to the evolution of the motorcycle industry.
Mauro Piccoli, marketing director of Brembo
“In WorldSBK, performance is forged under pressure, corner after corner. With Hyction™, we are introducing a technology designed to offer riders a more direct and predictable relationship with braking.”
Becoming the exclusive supplier from 2027 means playing an active role in the technical evolution of the championship and helping to define its new standards.
WorldSBK is our ideal laboratory: we work closely with the best riders and teams in the world, and what we develop on the circuits directly feeds into innovation for road applications.
Current steel solutions used in WorldSBK are optimized through different specifications depending on circuit characteristics and usage conditions. The new material Hyction™ has been designed to offer greater consistency, better thermal stability and greater durability in the diversity of conditions encountered throughout a season.
Hyction™ technology is also part of a broader approach to operational efficiency and long-term sustainability, reducing the need for multiple specifications while increasing component lifespan and overall system optimization.
As the global benchmark for production motorcycle racing, WorldSBK provides a particularly relevant environment for the development of future technologies. The diversity of circuits, braking zones, and racing conditions, combined with the demands placed on top-level riders, makes it an ideal real-world laboratory for materials innovation.
This collaboration reflects Brembo's historical philosophy, of "circuit to road"where technologies developed and validated in competition gradually serve as the basis for future applications intended for motorcyclists worldwide.
