Brembo took advantage of the 7th round of the Superbike Championship World SBK at Misano to announce the introduction of Brembo Hyction™ carbon-ceramic brake disc technology from 2027.

The Superbike World Championship and the Italian manufacturer are thus opening a new chapter in the competition of production-derived motorcycles, with WorldSBK becoming the exclusive platform for the debut of this new material in motorcycle competition.

From 2027, Brembo will also become the exclusive supplier of braking systems for the WorldSBK category, thus reinforcing an already historic presence in the paddock, where the majority of teams currently use its products.

This development marks a change in the championship's braking philosophy, in line with the evolution of modern production motorcycles and the motorcycle industry as a whole.

What is this about?

Brembo's carbon-ceramic disc design is generally based on a carbon fiber-reinforced ceramic core, coated on each friction surface with a ceramic layer, to offer superior durability and efficiency.

The high-performance material CSiC (carbon-reinforced silicon carbide)Combined with a ceramic coating, it offers exceptional performance, even in the most demanding conditions.

The characteristics of carbon-ceramic are constantly aimed at ensuring the excellence of the braking system and the overall performance of the vehicle. This material exhibits very low deformation at high temperatures, which allows for consistent braking force even after repeated stress, thanks to its excellent thermal behavior.

Carbon-ceramic discs CCB are particularly resistant to the phenomenon of fading, especially in the most extreme braking situations.

The extraordinary lightness of the carbon-ceramic discs also makes the vehicle lighter and more agile, thus improving fuel consumption, driving comfort, deceleration capabilities and acceleration.

Furthermore, thanks to the intrinsic properties of carbon-ceramic, CCB discs offer a significant gain in safety.

HYCTION is launching a new premium category: a carbon-ceramic disc for road-going supersport motorcycles, boasting racing DNA and capable of delivering consistent performance in the most extreme conditions. It was created to set a new global benchmark for braking on supersport motorcycles.

HYCTION

Hyper Performance. Pure Action.

HYCTION is not just a disc: it's the heart of an integrated system, designed to work in perfect harmony and deliver a racing-level braking experience on the road. Combined with the caliper GP4-HYIt forms a braking system without equal.

Its lightness and low inertia concretely modify the behavior of the motorcycle: reduced masses at the front make a Superleggera more agile in changes of direction, more precise when entering corners and more stable during heavy braking.

Every element surrounding HYCTION, from the specific caliper to the pads developed especially for it, has been designed to transform this responsiveness into control: power, progressiveness and consistency, corner after corner.

floating coupling

Floating mounting system derived from MotoGP.

Non-circular inner profile

Hexagonal profile allowing for optimized structure and reduced mass.

Ventilation holes

132 holes maximizing heat exchange.

Asymmetrical bowl

Bowl with an asymmetrical profile offering maximum rigidity and reduced weight.

When temperature is no longer a limit

Every braking maneuver generates heat. And on a supersport motorcycle, heat represents the boundary between powerful braking and repeatable braking.

HYCTION was designed to push back this limit: a carbon-ceramic disc capable of delivering immediate response, high stability and a consistent feel at the lever, even in the most extreme conditions.

Pure function, without superfluity

HYCTION adopts a floating system derived from MotoGP as well as an asymmetrical aluminium bowl with a completely new internal geometry.

This shape has been studied to maximize structural resistance at the drive points, reduce stress concentrations and optimize load distribution, thus ensuring dynamic stability, efficiency and predictability.

A new benchmark

From competition to the road, when technology not only progresses, but creates a new category.

HYCTION will make its world premiere on the Ducati Superleggera V4 Centenario, combined with the GP4-HY caliper, thus giving birth to a whole new segment of the motorcycle industry.

Gregorio Lavilla, Executive Director of WorldSBK

“WorldSBK represents the most direct link between competition and the motorcycles used by enthusiasts worldwide. By extending our collaboration with Brembo to this new technical chapter, we are reinforcing the relevance of the championship as a platform where innovations developed in racing contribute to the future of production motorcycles.”

I would also like to thank the manufacturers, teams, and the FIM for their collaboration and support in defining a technical direction that allows WorldSBK to remain closely linked to the evolution of the motorcycle industry.

Mauro Piccoli, marketing director of Brembo

“In WorldSBK, performance is forged under pressure, corner after corner. With Hyction™, we are introducing a technology designed to offer riders a more direct and predictable relationship with braking.”

Becoming the exclusive supplier from 2027 means playing an active role in the technical evolution of the championship and helping to define its new standards.

WorldSBK is our ideal laboratory: we work closely with the best riders and teams in the world, and what we develop on the circuits directly feeds into innovation for road applications.

Current steel solutions used in WorldSBK are optimized through different specifications depending on circuit characteristics and usage conditions. The new material Hyction™ has been designed to offer greater consistency, better thermal stability and greater durability in the diversity of conditions encountered throughout a season.

Hyction™ technology is also part of a broader approach to operational efficiency and long-term sustainability, reducing the need for multiple specifications while increasing component lifespan and overall system optimization.

As the global benchmark for production motorcycle racing, WorldSBK provides a particularly relevant environment for the development of future technologies. The diversity of circuits, braking zones, and racing conditions, combined with the demands placed on top-level riders, makes it an ideal real-world laboratory for materials innovation.

This collaboration reflects Brembo's historical philosophy, of "circuit to road"where technologies developed and validated in competition gradually serve as the basis for future applications intended for motorcyclists worldwide.
