Jonas Folger and the Monster Yamaha Tech3 team have agreed to continue their strong partnership after the German rookie achieved good results in the first five races. Next year Folger will partner current teammate Johann Zarco as he looks to continue his progression in MotoGP.

According to Jonas Folger, “ I'm really happy to continue with Hervé and the Monster Yamaha Tech3 team for 2018. So far this year I'm very happy with the performances we've put in, including in pre-season testing, but there are has much more to come from me.

“For the remainder of 2017 as well as next year, I believe we can make solid progress. I'm already excited to see what we can do over the next few months, and I have to thank the boss and everyone involved at Tech3 for what they have done so far and for having faith in me and I will give still the best on the Yamaha YZR-M1. »

For Hervé Poncharal, the team manager, “Just two weeks after announcing that Johann Zarco will remain with us for the 2018 season, we are delighted to confirm that Jonas Folger has also signed for another year with the Monster Yamaha Tech3 team.

“I am delighted to retain Jonas as he has done a great job on the Yamaha so far. He finished all five races in the points, and only once outside the top ten.

“Of course, everyone is very impressed with his teammate Johann and there may be a little more attention on him, but we can't forget that Jonas is doing a great job as a rookie.

“Our German driver is fast, safe, eager to learn and I know his potential and am very confident that he can achieve what we all expect. A driver always performs better when there is less weight on his shoulders and when his future is settled for the following season.

“So this news will help Jonas to concentrate 100% without distraction and again I am totally convinced that he will reward the team, Yamaha and our sponsors with good results.

“He is a very strong asset for Tech3 and we are really happy and proud to have him with us for another year. »
