During our article on the subject, we mentioned 3 potential buyers for the legendary Silverstone circuit; the Indian group Tata via its subsidiary Jaguar-Land Rover, the owner of Ginetta, Lawrence Tomlinson, as well as the former F1 driver, Jonathan Palmer via his MotorSport Vision group.

However, it could well be that none of these entities finalizes the action since the current owner of the circuit, the BRDC, has just revealed that a 4th structure had made itself known and that it was ultimately the favorite, although remaining anonymous for the moment.

Derek Warwick, president of the BRDC: “At the moment they are probably the strongest of those we have received, but there is still a lot to do. Everything's in the details. The detail is complicated, and I want to be sure that in 20 years, we will still enjoy working with them. I don’t want to put someone at Silverstone who, in five years’ time, will prove to be impossible to work with, so there’s a big responsibility on this desk and on me.”

Date of final response to applications? Derek Warwick is setting his sights on the end of October, without really believing in it: “We have now said at the end of October to get a signed agreement. But when you're doing a case as complicated as ours, even though we have a deadline for the end of October, I wouldn't want to put my hand to chopping.”

The 4th contender is believed to be a foreign consortium, and Silverstone remains the circuit which temporarily hosts the British MotoGP Grand Prix, although the contract is held by the currently non-existent circuit of Wales…
