For its 40th anniversary, the British Grand Prix will celebrate two things at Silverstone. On the one hand schedule individuals due to mechanical and media competition and, on the other hand, an unprecedented procedure for changing motorcycles in the event of flag to flag. If the first originality will be experienced on Sunday, the second will be discovered at the end of this FP2. So we will look at that closely.

In the meantime, on the track side, this was the situation when riding under a beautiful sun and a track at 36°

The start of the session, however, gave its share of emotions with a violent drop in Marc Marquez in turn 4. The championship leader got up after a moment and seemed unharmed when he returned to his box. A reassuring state that the pilot confirmed to his team.

An incident that did not cool down the local hero Crutchlow who signed an intimidating 2'01.730 which pushed back Red his closest pursuer more than half a second away. Vinales et Dovizioso followed, just like Alex Espargaro again there with his Aprilia. As for Marquez, he reassured everyone by taking second place, thirty-one thousandths behind the Englishman as soon as he came out with his second bike!

Another push of the collar and the five-time title winner finally took the lead, showing everyone that he was in no way impressed by his very recent accident.

Ten minutes from the goal, the feeling came from Pol Espargaro who took third place with his KTM. The other RC16 of Bradley Smith crossed during this time in twenty second place… Vinales, Red, Lorenzo, Alex Espargaro, Dovizioso et zarco then closed the strategic top 10 where Pedrosa was a notable absentee.

Five minutes from time, Crutchlow launched a new offensive to position itself on the crest of 2'00 per lap. Marquez was pushed back more than seven tenths and suffered his second fall of the afternoon at turn 13. The Spaniard was in fact forced to throw in the towel, having damaged his two machines in a single session.

The checkered flag saluted one of which Crutchlow triumphing alone under the 2'00 mark. Red followed and Vinales also just like Alex Espargaro et Marquez closing the top 5. Lorenzo was sixth ahead of an explosive Espargaro Pol with his KTM which was ahead zarco, Dovizioso still with the old fairing, and Redding which deprived the two official Suzukis of the top 10 by Iannone.

Baz was fifteenth and Pedrosa a distant seventeenth...

As for the new procedure, here is an example…
