Unlike the Superbike World Championship, in BSB, the Ducati Panigale V4 R will have to ride with the rev limiter at 16.000 rpm: as on the standard model...

The maximum allowable revs (16350 rpm according to FIM regulations) for the new Ducati Panigale V4 R was one of the main topics of discussion during the first two rounds of the Superbike World Championship. In BSB, however, the same discussion will not be possible. The newborn from Bologna will be able to drive with the rev limiter at 16.000 rpm, as on the standard model.

RULE V4
This has already been renamed “the Ducati Panigale V4 R Rule”. The technical rules of the British Superbike in terms of engine speed are clear: speed of the standard model, to which must be added 750 rpm. This will not be the case for the V4 R, whose limiter is set at 16 rpm, without discussion in this regard or derogation by application of a particular rule written in recent months.

RULE
In summary, article 5.2.6.6.9.2 provides that the standard computer imposed by the championship (the single MoTeC electronic control unit) must be “750 rpm faster than the standard model up to a maximum of 16.000 rpm, as required by MCRCB / MSVR”. As a result, no bonus for the new Ducati Panigale V4 R, the only Superbike on the market with such a diet.

PREVIOUS
The V4 R will therefore operate in the BSB with the same rev limiter as the standard model, while having to adapt to the MoTeC control unit (without electronic aid as required by regulations). In the past, twin-cylinder Panigale, MSVR (promoter) and the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board had granted "aids" in terms of revs and engine, and a similar argument for Suzuki and BMW in subsequent seasons. This year, for the new V4 R, that will not be the case….

4 PANIGALE V4 R AT THE START
A total of four Panigale V4 Rs will take part in BSB 2019. Two have been fielded by the Be Wiser PBM Ducati team with Scott Redding (which was very fast during the first official tests) and Josh Brookes, but also one by Oxford Racing Moto Rapido (with Tommy Bridewell) and one by Brixx Ducati (with Sylvain Barrier). Paul Bird Motorsport will also be present at the North West 200 with Alastair Seeley, but not at the TT. By contract, Brookes will not be able to take part in the Isle of Man with another team or brand, thus forgoing the 2019 Tourist Trophy due to his priority entry in British Superbike.
