The battle between Jules Cluzel and Kenan Sofuoglu was heated at Misano last month, but less so than the PTR team truck which caught fire on the way back to its base in Lincolnshire.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire which started when one of the tires exploded on the left side of the trailer, but significant damage was sustained to both the trailer and its contents.
The trailer was brought back from France last week and the team salvaged what could be salvaged before assessing the scale and cost of the damage which ran into tens of thousands of pounds.
Simon Buckmaster, the boss of the PTR Honda team, declared: “It’s a huge blow for the team at this stage of the season. Jules is currently just 30 points off the championship lead and we want to be able to keep his chances of becoming World Supersport Champion intact.
There is an incredible amount of work to be done to get things in order. We will do it, the team has been fantastic with their effort and dedication. We want to give ourselves the best chance of being world champions this year, but realistically for a private team it's a huge financial hit. There's a big hole in the side of the truck that was ripped open to ensure the fire was completely extinguished, and there's an even bigger hole in the team's budget for the rest of the season. This is why we are asking fans of the PTR Honda team and the entire racing community for their help at this difficult time. “
If the goal is reached, the team will hold a draw for one lucky donor to win VIP tickets to the final round of European World Supersport in Jerez as guests of PTR Honda!
Donations will be used to rebuild the trailer and replace equipment destroyed by the fire. »
It is up to everyone to judge the relevance of the statement, and for the moment, the team collected 400 euros out of the 60 pounds targeted…
Help us raise £60000 to rebuild our race truck and replace racing equipment after devastating fire. Thanks! https://t.co/H2hqG1EPOI
