The events currently taking place in Catalonia obviously cannot leave Dorna indifferent. First of all because, of course, the Catalan Grand Prix is scheduled for 2021 but also because the company that manages the Grands Prix has a large office in Barcelona, in addition to its head office in Madrid.

What is the current situation and what could it be in the future?

Carmelo Ezpeleta spoke on the subject in the economic columns Five days from the El Pais newspaper website.

Can what is happening affect you?

Carmelo Ezpeleta : " I hope not. Of course, we don't like that at all. You can have an opinion on what you want, but you must follow the laws that have been given to all of us. There may be people who want to be independent, I have friends who would prefer an independent Catalonia. I do not agree. If one day it is independent, it must be done in compliance with the law. I am Catalan and I have family there. The subject divides, in Catalonia. But even if they were all independentists, it would be necessary to act according to the Constitution. The functions held in the Generalitat are so because they arise from the elections enshrined in the Constitution. There's a lot to say, and I understand that there are people who aren't happy, but not like that. »

Is the Catalan Grand Prix in danger?

“The Catalan GP is an event which takes place on Spanish territory. If it wasn't Spanish territory, it would be complicated. We should see. We don't just do Grands Prix in Spain. Le Mans is not in Spain, and that happens. I cannot imagine that we will give independence. If this happens, we will have to see the circumstances and talk about things. I don't know. »

What if the situation keeps getting worse?

“We have a contract in force with the Circuit of Catalonia, which depends a lot on the government of Catalonia. If he wants to keep the GP in the current conditions, we will be delighted. If the conditions are different, we will have to talk. »
