It was feared and unfortunately, the terrible news was confirmed. Victim of a violent fall at the start of the second free practice session of the Catalan Moto2 Grand Prix, Luis Salom succumbed to his injuries.

The medical team was unable to do anything and it was when he was going into surgery that the SAG pilot left us. Born on August 7, 1991 in Palma de Mallorca, LUIS Salom made his Grand Prix debut in 2009, as a replacement for Simone Corsi at Jack&Jones WRB. That year, he participated in twelve Grands Prix and finished in the points five times. Formerly of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, of which he was vice-Champion in 2008, Salom became vice-Champion of Spain behind Efrén Vázquez before starting his first full season in 125cc in 2010.

He then joined Team Lambretta Reparto Corse then moved to RW Racing GP to reveal his potential and win two victories in 2012 and become vice-World Champion Moto3. He signed with Red Bull KTM Ajo in order to win the world title in 2013 and had an excellent season, punctuated by seven victories and five podiums, which he however finished in third position after his falls at Motegi then at Valencia.

He nevertheless moved to Moto2 in 2014 with the Sito Pons team but found less success than his teammate Maverick Viñales. Salom nevertheless extends with Paginas Amarillas HP 40 for 2015 following the departure of Viñales in MotoGP and welcomes Álex Rins to his side. While his teammate shines and finishes vice-Champion, Salom misses the points nine times and finishes thirteenth in the general classification. This year he was on Kalex again but with the SAG Team in 2016. He won the podium in Qatar. He was tenth in the championship with 37 points.
