Following the accident which cost the life of Enric Saurí during the 24 Hours of Catalunya, the Més Competició team, one of the teams which participated in the 24 Hours of Catalunya, launched a collection of signatures so that the circuit of Barcelona increases the escape from turn #1.

This request from Més Competició therefore calls into question another part of the circuit than that which cost Luis Salom his life, which had already led to the creation of a new chicane abandoned from the first Grand Prix using it.

The Catalan circuit is trying to cope with all these demands and has already promised resurfacing for next season, as well as more gravel in the bins. Moving the stands to widen the escape routes, both in turn #1 and in the one that was fatal to Luis Salom, however, remains a much harder problem to manage...

Security pressure now concerns at least two places on a circuit which, for the Spanish federation located in Madrid, also has the disadvantage of being located in Catalonia.

Clearly, if one of the Spanish circuits has to disappear from the world calendar to make way for a new country, it will undoubtedly be that of Barcelona…
