The 500 NSR made its mark in the 90s with the five titles obtained by Mick Doohan between 1994 and 1998, then that of Alex Criville in 1999. This Honda was then needed to win, or even to finish second behind the Australian, as was the case of the Spaniard in 1996, or even third like Luca Cadalora that same year, and also fourth as proven by Alex Barros. Outside of the 500 NSR, there is no salvation.

With six consecutive titles, who could do better than Honda, when it comes to the premier category, and the driver's title (the manufacturers' championship only interests manufacturers)? Yamaha, very brilliant in 500 as in MotoGP, won three times in three consecutive years, with Kenny Roberts from 1978 to 1980, Wayne Rainey from 1990 to 1992, and finally with Valentino Rossi (2008-2009) and Jorge Lorenzo (2010 ).

Suzuki won twice in a row with Barry Sheene in 1976 and 1977, then with Marco Lucchinelli in 1981 and Franco Uncini in 1982. If we go back a little further in history, since the creation of the World Championship in 1949, Gilera had an interesting four-way spell from 1952 to 1955 with Umberto Masseti and Geoff Duke.

But the great triumphant of this glorious epic is none other than MV Agusta, with 17 world titles obtained in 500 from 1958 to 1960 with John Surtees, in 1961 with Gary Hocking, from 1962 to 1965 with Mike Hailwood, from 1966 to 1972 ( + 1975) with Giacomo Agostini, and finally in 1973 and 1974 with Phil Read.

When the motorcycles of Count Domenico Agusta won the first of these titles, the Beatles were not even born, George Harrison having just met John Lennon and Paul McCartney to form the quarrymen.

When the final checkered flag was lowered on Giacomo Agostini's final victory of these 17 consecutive titles, the Rolling Stones sang " It's only rock'n roll », while Mel C and Victoria Beckham, singers of the Spice Girls, were born on January 12, and on April 17.

50-3

In total, MV Agusta has won 38 drivers', 37 constructors', and 270 Grand Prix world titles.
