With Clement Rougé and Gabin Planques, Lorenzo Fellon was selected to participate in the2019 edition of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. His father, Laurent, famous for having brought Johann Zarco to the highest level, never really wanted to draw attention to his son, judging with certain common sense that he first had to shine before speak of it.

In a sense, it's bad luck for him, but it's good for us: Lorenzo Fellon had to present himself in detail on the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup official website.

Let’s take advantage…

Lorenzo was born on July 15, 2004 in Avignon. Obviously, such a first name coming from his dad's passion predestined him to roam the paddocks from a very young age, and, 10 years later, here he is Champion of the Yamaha PW50 Cup. In 2015 and 2016, he tasted the joys of the RMU 70cc before finishing in 9th position in the 2017 pre-Moto3 Beon season.
In 2018, he ranked 16th in the European Talent Cup, you know, the formula where there are around forty riders on the same bike as you who have only one idea: to overtake you!

Lorenzo Fellon: ”I started at the age of 5 with my father in the paddock of a Go Kart track in the south of France and Johann Zarco (my father is his manager). The first time I touched the bike was an incredible moment; I decided to start riding motorcycles and do everything I could to be a professional rider one day.

I participated a lot in Johann's races when he was young, in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and even afterwards in the MotoGP paddock. I love this atmosphere. My father was also a pilot, but he had to stop his career due to lack of money. But his passion was so strong that he remained in the world of motorcycles, but this time in the safety route. My father plays an important role in my career, as does my mother. They made many sacrifices to keep my dream alive. My sponsors also help me a lot. David, my physical trainer, helps me be a better athlete physically and mentally. My father's profession is to be the director and coach of upcoming drivers. He created a school called Z&F Grand Prix, the school to help young French drivers reach the world championship. My mother works with my father in Z&F Grand Prix School. She is the school secretary.

I consider Johann Zarco my brother. When I was young, we spent a lot of time together. I want to be MotoGP world champion. In the near future, I want to achieve good results in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and then win it. I learned a lot about self-control during the 2018 season. Also, at the European Talent Cup I learned a lot about battles, overtaking and using the rear brake.

My best race was this year, in Aragón during the European Talent Cup. I started in 7th position, I had a very bad start (in the first corner, I was 15th or 16th) and during the race, the first group of seven drivers created a gap on my group, but I knew I had the pace to fill it. So I overtook two guys in the last corner, one on the outside and one on the inside and started to get my rhythm. There was a big gap between me and the first group (12 seconds) After six laps I closed that gap and fought for the victory. Finally, due to a fall, the race stopped and I finished 8th, 0,7 seconds from victory. Another of my best races of 2018 was in Catalunya, where I finished 7th, 0,5 seconds from the lead. It was a tough battle for victory, but I ended up finishing 7th.

In 2019, I want to make the most of my experience and continue to learn more about my riding and myself. But I also want to get on the podium and finish in a good place in the championship standings.

My racing hero is Marc Márquez. Since I was young, I have watched him on television and in the paddock. He's incredible, my motivation comes from that race in Estoril in 2010, when he crashed on the warm-up lap, he started last and eventually won the race.

What gives me the most satisfaction about racing is everything around the bike. Training hard to achieve my goals, never giving up in difficult times, and enjoying the victory excites me. I like fast turns, but also tight tracks. My favorite subjects at school are Physical Education because I like to excel and give my 120%, and I like English, for the open-mindedness. My hobbies are training physically to be even more ready, and playing football with friends to relax”.
