A week after the Czech Republic, Loris Baz was once again invited to Q2 on the Red Bull Ring circuit in Austria.
Faced with optimal conditions at the start of the third free practice session, Loris Baz (Reale Avintia Racing) managed to record the seventh time in 1'24.097, a performance which allowed him to pass with flying colors in Q2 of the Grand Prix NeroGiardini from Austria.
During qualifying, the Habs gave everything to try to progress even further, but it was not enough since they were in 12th place in the hierarchy. Despite this, Loris Baz hopes to rediscover the rhythm he showed during the final practice session to do well on Sunday and thus make a clean slate of his disappointment in the last race in Brno.
With the weather promising to be similar, the choice of tires will be the key to this event, but the Haut-Savoyard says he is confident.
Loris Baz“The day went really well overall. During the third session this morning, I managed to set a good time on my last lap to advance to Q2. We took advantage of the last test session to study the behavior of the soft tire over a long run in preparation for the race. I think that's what hurt me in qualifying: I no longer had any feeling. The tire wear is so significant on this track that I was not able to get the same feeling as this morning. The advantage of being in Q2 is being able to take risks without having the fear of losing ground in the standings. Given the wear of the tires on this track, the race promises to be interesting, a bit like last season. »
