After a heroic run in France two weeks ago, when he remarkably returned from a monstrous highside that hospitalized him overnight, Cal Crutchlow was back in top form at the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello, achieving the sixth fastest time of the first day of testing.
The LCR Honda Castrol man is still suffering from the after-effects of the Le Mans incident, with sciatic pain in his back and legs, but he pushed himself to set an impressive lap of 1'47.433. Although he doesn't feel as comfortable as he did a few weeks ago, the British driver is optimistic about progressing and qualifying among the top positions in Saturday's qualifying session at the Italian GP.
Cal Crutchlow, 6th, (1'47″433): “Today was a pretty positive day. We weren't very happy with our position or the feeling on the bike in the second session, but I think sixth position is good enough for now. We are working hard with HRC engineers and within the LCR Honda Castrol team to improve our package for tomorrow. We can't wait to compete on the front row in qualifying, that's our goal, and to get on the podium on Sunday.”
