Having made a mistake during an unpredictable race in the Czech Republic, Loris Baz was impatient to get back on the handlebars of his Ducati Desmosedici GP15 at the Red Bull Ring.
The Haut-Savoyard was quick to find his feet on the Austrian track as he concluded the opening day in 14th place, sandwiched between Valentino Rossi and Danilo Petrucci. The Reale Avintia Racing driver was a little more than eight tenths behind the reference time established by Andrea Dovizioso and was only a stone's throw from a provisional place in Q2.
While the conditions look ideal on Saturday morning, Loris Baz intends to jostle to make his way into the top ten.
Loris Baz (13th) :
« The day went pretty well and I had a good feeling. The problems I had in Brno only persist in two corners here in Austria. We have tried to find solutions, but we have not yet succeeded. I still managed to make progress this afternoon. The ranking is very close, I finished only four tenths behind the Top 4. We had some difficulties on this track last year, but we are much faster this season. Not much is missing to go straight into Q2. I almost did it on my last attempt, but I negotiated the last sector badly. By focusing more on my feeling at the front as well as the electronics, I am confident that we can be in the top ten on Saturday morning. The weather allowed us to evaluate the tires for the race. I feel good with the medium. Concerning the rear, we still have to analyze how it behaves on long runs. »
