A new era is dawning for the premier category of derivatives of the series.

The FIM and Dorna WSBK Organization have announced new developments for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship race weekend format for the 2019 season: for the first time in the history of the discipline, three WorldSBK races will now be contested per weekend.

Race 1 will be contested on Saturday at 14 p.m. This will always mark the start of the races and will maintain the same duration. For the very first time, however, a shortened event, in a sprint format, will be held on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. For all rounds held in Central European Standard Time (CET), the WorldSBK weekend will then conclude with Race 3 on Sunday at 14 p.m., with the duration unchanged.

While the WorldSBK weekends therefore promise to be particularly exciting, Dorna WSBK Organization and the FIM are working with drivers, teams, manufacturers, circuits, broadcasters and sponsors, to ensure that the best format will be set for the 2019 season. Exciting and thrilling racing will be guaranteed as the WorldSBK weekend enters this new era, delivering a whole new experience to fans around the world.

Daniel Carrera, WorldSBK Executive Director, explains: “Incorporating a third sprint race into the WorldSBK format in 2019 is something we have been planning for a long time now, so we are delighted to see it come to fruition. Year after year we strive to ensure exciting races for fans, and we believe the addition of a sprint race will enrich the WorldSBK experience. We continue to work on the final adjustments and hope to be able to provide more details very soon. »
