The French driver took five points for 11th place at the finish of the first race in Thailand.
Loris Baz, who hoped to do well during qualifying, ultimately did not manage to be among the residents of Superpole 2. Credited with a time of 1'34.477 during the repechage session, the Frenchman had to position himself on the fifth row on the starting grid for the first round.
When the lights went out, Loris Baz was initially cautious before gradually moving up into the group fighting for 11th place. After a neck-and-neck fight, the Haut-Savoyard managed to gain the upper hand over Lorenzo Savadori five laps from the checkered flag. Although he lacked time to close the gap on Jordi Torres, he nevertheless finished the event at a rapid pace to protect himself from his transalpine rival.
Ninth in the general classification, the representative of the Althea BMW Racing Team intends to find some solutions on Sunday in order to progress further in the hierarchy during the second race, which will kick off at 16 p.m. (local time).
Loris Baz (Race 1 — 11th) :
“Unfortunately, I didn't have a good Superpole. I first encountered a problem with my first tire, then I made a mistake during one of my flying laps. I was then somewhat hampered by PJ Jacosben and I had to cut my effort. It's a shame, because I think we had the pace to reach Superpole 2.
'In the race, I missed my start, but I did pretty well before the start of the second lap. Afterwards, I tried to save my tires, because I knew the last few laps were going to be trickier. I managed to stay in the group before taking the advantage.
“I'm disappointed, because starting from so far away I couldn't do much better. We still encounter problems with electronics compared to others who have made significant progress. On the other hand, the front of the bike is perfect and that allows me to compensate. At the moment, we are not achieving the goals we set for ourselves.
“We will try to find something tomorrow to put points in the standings again. We will then have to work in preparation for the third event in Aragón. »
