Skillfully mastering the pitfalls of a wet track, Alex Marquez crossed the finish line of the Brno circuit to offer a new podium to Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS.

The rain having forced the race management to interrupt the proceedings, the Grand Prix of the Czech Republic finally took place in a totally crazy six-lap sprint.

It was therefore in light rain that Marquez, starting in fifth position from the second row, quickly moved into second place behind the future winner, Thomas Lüthi.

A great performance for Marquez who has not yet fully recovered from the neck injuries caused by his fall during the previous race in Germany. The Spaniard did not fail to dedicate his podium to his compatriot Angel Nieto, the legendary “12 + 1” World Champion who lost his life last Thursday following a road accident.

The weather conditions today spoiled the chances of victory for Franco Morbidelli who was leading the race in the dry when it was interrupted on the eighth lap due to rain.

The Grand Prix of the Czech Republic ultimately took place over six laps, a distance of 32,4 km.

Morbidelli was unfortunately unable to regain the pace he had had in the wet during Friday's practice. He had to settle for a fight for eighth place in the chasing group.

With 182 points on the clock, Morbidelli nevertheless retains first place in the general classification of the Moto2 world championship with a lead of 17 points over Thomas Lüthi. Marquez follows in third position with 133 points.

Alex Marquez: 2th
“After my injury in Germany and the difficult weeks that followed, I am happy to be on this podium. I tried to go for the victory for Angel Nieto but today Tom Lüthi was too strong. In any case, I want to dedicate this podium to Nieto – the Maestro – who I will never forget. He was a true motorcycle racing legend. »

Franco Morbidelli: 8st
“I wasn't good in the wet. I wasn't fast enough and I was quickly swallowed up by the group I was ahead of at the start of the race. The fight was intense and I really had to spit in my hands to stay in eighth place. I took a lot of risks and almost fell several times. I'm finally happy to score points and maintain the lead in the championship. We will now have to understand why we weren't in the running today because I wasn't expecting that after the good times on Friday in the wet. »

Michael Bartholemy: Team Principal
“I have mixed feelings after this race. I am very happy for Alex and his second place which allows him to return to third position in the general classification. He will be able to go to Austria with full confidence. For Franco, on the other hand, it is a disappointment. While he had led the race in the dry, he struggled in the wet and thus lost quite a few points. We will now go to Austria with the ambition of regaining the top places to defend our leading position in the championship. »
