By winning his sixth victory of the season in Germany, Franco Morbidelli regained control of the Moto2 world championship. The driver of Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS claims to be living a waking dream.

Now that mid-season is reached, Morbidelli will be able to take advantage of the summer break. After nine of the eight Grands Prix on the calendar, the Italian is 37 points ahead of Tom Lüthi.

Morbidelli once again showed control and composure to win at the Sachsenring at the end of a race where the pressure was total and at the end of which he won on the last lap.

Long in the Italian's wheel, Oliveira attacked in turn twelve during the penultimate lap. Morbidelli then immediately reacted by regaining the advantage when braking for the first corner of the last lap. The Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS driver then controlled the situation perfectly to cross the finish line with a lead of 0.066 seconds.

Starting from pole position, Morbidelli played the waiting race in the first laps, letting Lüthi and Marquez get ahead of him.

Just when he thought he was on course for a podium finish, Marquez crashed in turn two on lap four after taking the holeshot.

Morbidelli occupies first place in the general classification with 173 points. Lüthi is second with 136 points, Oliveira third with 114 points and Marquez fourth with 113 points.

Franco Morbidelli: 1st
“With six wins since the start of the season, I'm living a dream and I don't want to wake up. It was a tough race, especially when Miguel caught me around halfway. I had to defend my position. I thought he would pass me sooner because I was in trouble. I was ready for the fight in the last two laps. I was able to do a very good last lap and get this victory. Thank you to the whole team for the work carried out. »

Alex Marquez: DNF
“This race didn't go the way I hoped to end the first half of the championship. From the second lap I started to have grip problems and I had a big scare in turn seven when cutting the throttle. The rear stalled violently. The same thing happened two laps later at the corner and this time I couldn't do anything to avoid the crash. This is not how I wanted to end this first half of the season but fortunately we will have a little time to recover before returning to the track in Brno. It's one of my favorite circuits and I hope to start the second part of the championship there in a good way. »

Michael Bartholemy: Team Principal
“It's very good to see Franco win his sixth victory of the season and above all increase his lead in the general classification to 37 points before the summer break. This is exactly what we wanted. It's disappointing for Alex who fell in the same way as in practice on Friday. We have to find solutions to help him have more grip because that's the kind of difficult situation in Moto2. I think Alex will be OK, we're going to Brno in two weeks to do some testing and I think that will help him get his confidence back. He really suffered with this lack of rear grip this weekend. »
