The Petronas Sprinta Racing team driver underwent a second operation to stabilize the damage to his hand.

Petronas Sprinta Racing Team's Khairul Idham Pawi today underwent a successful operation at the Universitari Dexeus Hospital in Barcelona to stabilize injuries he suffered during the Spanish Grand Prix in May. This is the second operation the Malaysian pilot has required as part of his extensive rehabilitation programme.

Today's surgery, carried out by Dr. Xavier Mir and his team from the ICATME trauma department, inserted a screw into the reconstructed bone of "KIP's" little finger. Speaking after the two-hour operation, Dr Mir said: “ KIP underwent a partial amputation of his pinky finger three months ago and so far his rehabilitation has gone well, in that the vascular structure of the finger has healed well. Now the second surgery will help the bone reconstruction by fixing the phalanx in place.”

KIP will now return to Malaysia to begin his recovery and rehabilitation, with a planned return to the 2 Moto2019 championship as soon as he is fully fit.
