A NEW ASPHALT AWAITS MICHELIN IN SILVERSTONE

Michelin crosses the Channel for the GoPro British Grand Prix, 12th round of the MotoGP World Championship^TM, in Silverstone (England).

A new challenge awaits Michelin in Great Britain because this year, the 5,900 km circuit – the longest of the MotoGP season – has been completely re-surfaced. This is the first time in 22 years that the entire circuit has been renovated. With this new surface on which Michelin was unable to ride in advance, the tire allocation will be different from other MotoGP weekends. The MICHELIN Power Slicks range will have four fronts and four rears, compared to three of each usually. This is to offer drivers, teams and manufacturers the opportunity to choose the products that best suit them. With a soft, a medium and two hard for the front and rear, the range is also divided into two designs at the front: the soft is asymmetrical with a harder right side, while the other three rubbers are symmetrical . The length of the circuit and its fast profile with its 10 right turns and 8 left turns require an asymmetrical design of the rear tire. Thus, the four rear versions are asymmetrical with harder rubber on the right side to support the heavy loads repeated for 20 laps.

Located in the heart of England, in Northamptonshire, Silverstone has a rich MotoGP history. The first motorcycle Grand Prix was organized there in 1977 – it was also the first GP “really” on British territory since it was previously organized on the Isle of Man. It was the scene of memorable battles. Michelin and its partners are hoping to find good conditions after the exceptionally fine summer that England experienced this year, but "British" weather is still to be feared. The MICHELIN Power Rain are available in soft and medium for the front and rear, the rear tires also having an asymmetrical design unlike the fronts.

The action will begin on Friday August 24 with two free practice sessions. Qualifying will take place on Saturday, after two other free practice sessions. The British Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday August 26 at an unusual time since it will take place before the Moto2 race^TM. The lights will turn green at 13:00 p.m. local time (14:00 p.m. French time)

But the festivities will begin on Thursday with the traditional “Day of Champions” and the “Two Wheels for Life” whose aim is to raise funds via an auction. The riders will be present and Michelin will once again be involved by donating a replica tire which will be signed by all the riders before being auctioned for the Official Charity of MotoGP.
