The year 2018 marked the 20e anniversary of the Yamaha YZF-R1, one of the most influential motorcycles in history. This first model revolutionized the superbike concept in 1998. The size and position of the engine, the configuration of parts inside the chassis, as well as the chassis itself were all revisited. Yamaha has used its pioneering superbike as a platform for innovation for two decades now, with unprecedented levels of excellence in the sportbike industry.
To mark the 20e anniversary of their revolutionary machine, three Yamaha racing teams took part in the legendary Suzuka 8 Hours on the YZF-R1, sporting the iconic red and white of the original 1 YZF-R1998 model. Aboard their “Special Edition” machines and wearing matching leather suits, the team Yamaha Factory Racing composed of Alex Lowes, Michael van der Mark and Katsuyuki Nakasuga showed heroic will to obtain a 4ehistoric consecutive victory in this prestigious endurance race.
To mark this momentous occasion and two decades of superbike innovation, Yamaha Motor Europe is delighted to announce the launch of the race-ready, limited edition 1 YZF-R2019 GYTR. In livery of the 20e victorious anniversary of the Suzuka 8 Hours, including an extensive range of GYTR® – Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing – performance products and other high-performance parts as standard. The YZF-R1 GYTR is designed for track riding only.
Major GYTR equipment accessories on the YZF-R1 include a racing wiring harness assembly, electronic control unit (ECU), communications control unit (CCU), and quick throttle. This exclusive race bike also comes with a high-performance Öhlins FGRT 219 fork, TTX36 GP rear shock and fully adjustable steering damper, as well as an Akrapovič Evolution 2 titanium exhaust system. of Gilles Tooling wheel axles reinforce the protection of the motorcycle.
Non-Yamaha racing parts, specially selected and installed by the racing engineers of an official Yamaha partner racing team will also be available as an option. These engineers ensure that each motorcycle is equipped with an all-carbon fairing with the Suzuka 8 Hours colors; Additionally, after assembly, engine break-in and custom chassis tuning are performed to prepare each driver to conquer the track.
