Alex Marquez took his first victory in the Moto2 world championship at the Jerez circuit. A brilliant success achieved in front of a Spanish audience committed to his cause.

On this Mother's Day, the rider of Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS who participated today in his 39th Moto2 Grand Prix dedicated this victory to Roser, his mother.

Starting from pole position, Marquez quickly took the lead with Morbidelli in his wake. The Italian managed to overtake his teammate on the seventh lap, thinking he could secure his fourth victory in a row. A fall two laps later unfortunately ruined his hopes. Marquez then found himself alone in control of the race. He never left them again.

The Team Estrella Galicia driver crossed the finish line 3,4 seconds ahead of Pecco Bagnaia who finished second.

Thanks to this victory, Marquez climbs to fourth place in the general classification while Morbidelli remains in control of the championship despite his blank result. The driver of Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS, however, sees his lead over Tom Lüthi reduced to eleven points.

Alex Marquez: Winner
“It’s incredible, I never imagined a victory like this in front of my home crowd. I would like to dedicate this to my mother since it is Mother's Day. I've been waiting for this success for three years and getting it in Jerez is like a dream come true. It was a difficult race because it was very hot and when I saw Franco fall in front of me I realized that a mistake could quickly happen. I had to slow down a little because I was really at the limit with the front and so I tried to control the gap with my opponents. I would like to thank the whole team and everyone who supports me in Spain. »

Franco Morbidelli: DNF
“I made a mistake and lost the front going into turn 9. I'm sorry for that mistake, I didn't have Alex's pace and I still tried to escape after doubling it. Fortunately, I keep the lead in the championship, but we will now have to concentrate to prepare for the next race at Le Mans. »

Michael Bartholemy: Team Principal
“It’s always a special day for a team when a driver takes his first victory. It’s something that stays in the memories. Alex was in dazzling form this weekend and he thoroughly deserves this victory. It's a shame that Franco couldn't finish the race because we could get a double today, but that's also part of the race. Today we demonstrated that our two drivers are capable of winning. Furthermore, Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS continues its winning streak with our fourth victory in a row. »
