Although he lost a place in the intermediate classification of the Moto2 world championship, Thomas Lüthi (Garage Plus Interwetten) posted a solid performance during the Catalan Moto2 GP, finishing fifth, after leading during the first meters.

Marked like everyone else by the fatal accident suffered by Spaniard Luis Salóm on Friday afternoon, Tom was at the end of his rope, losing contact in the final laps with grip problems. Dominique Aegerter (carXpert Interwetten) was fighting for eighth place when he had to retire with a broken rear wheel and engine. Robin Mulhauser (carXpert Interwetten), after a fairly good start to the race, then experienced more problems, before falling at the end of the event, returning to his bike to finish 21st.

Summary of the day, with Frédéric Corminboeuf, the boss of the Swiss team: “It’s a weekend to forget in every sense of the word, but we will never forget it. We all think very much of Luis Salóm, his family and his team. Dominique had a problem with the hub of his rear wheel, Robin came apart and absolutely must rectify the situation during the next GPs, while Tom demanded a lot from his tires at the start of the race, with his very rounded driving. It's been two weekends in a row that the podium has been reaching out to us, and we're not there. We must find solutions, starting Tuesday and Wednesday, since two days of tests await us in Valencia. »

They said…

Thomas Lüthi (Garage Plus Interwetten, 5rd): “Honestly, I don’t have much to say. The situation was very difficult, psychologically, for all of us, and I am happy that it is all over. I went the distance, I had some problems with the front wheel, but what I really need now is to get out of this environment for a day. Work starts again in Valencia on Tuesday and on Wednesday I will be there, full of energy again. It was great to be in front at the start of the race, I of course would have liked to be in front at the end as well. »

Dominique Aegerter (carXpert Interwetten, abandonment): “We don't yet know exactly what happened. From the fifth lap, I felt strange reactions from the rear of my bike; At first I thought my tire was deflating. Then, a few rounds from the end, when there were three of us fighting, seventh place at stake, the rear rim collapsed and the engine broke. I managed to avoid the fall. »

Robin Mulhauser (carXpert Interwetten, 21st): “It was a disastrous weekend, in very special conditions. We never found the solution with the new circuit design – since Saturday morning – and I refuse to say that it is all my fault. Never in my career had I ridden such a difficult bike. I had to brake and accelerate, but it didn't change anything, except that I ended up crashing. This week's tests will be very important for me, we must finally find a good basis to work from. »
