Franco Morbidelli crossed the finish line of the Italian Grand Prix in eighth position after a race which took place in conditions close to perfection. The event was nevertheless run over a distance shortened to ten laps, an intervention having been necessary to repair damaged inflatable protection.

The grid having been revised for the second start, Moridelli started from 12th position while his teammate started from XNUMXth. Victim of a fall in the company of Luca Marini, Alex Marquez was in fact able to restart before the red flag was shown.

Encouraged by his audience, Morbidelli made three good first laps to climb into seventh position before finding himself battling with Dominique Aegerter. Overwhelmed at the end of the race by Alex Rins, the Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS driver finally had to settle for eighth place.

For Marquez, this Italian Grand Prix was particularly lively. After his fall and his visit to the gravel trap following the first start, the Spaniard managed to overtake a dozen opponents to finish in sixteenth position under the checkered flag.

It was ultimately Johann Zarco who won this sixth round of the 2 Moto2016 world championship in front of a particularly large audience.

Franco Morbidelli: 8st
“The fact that the race was interrupted was not very positive for me because it added a lot of stress to the fact that I was already riding in front of my crowd. Starting twelfth with only ten laps to cover, I knew I had to manage to overtake as many opponents as possible from the start. Eighth today is the best result I could get. I know I have to improve because this result is not what we expected. We will continue to work with the team to do better. »

Alex Marquez: 16th
“At the first start I decided to stay calm in the traffic but when I wanted to overtake Marini in a chicane he closed the door. It's not normal to cut the gas at this location. The second part of the race went better even though I started from far away. I was able to overtake quite a few riders when I started to feel a vibration at the rear of the bike. Maybe it was because of my fall at the start of the race. The important thing is to have finished the race after being able to start again following my fall. The general feeling of the weekend remains positive and I know we can do better next time in Barcelona, for my Grand Prix. »
