As always with Cal Crutchlow, there is the tails side, represented in this case by his polite statements taken from the press release, but also the front side, much crisper, as pictured here by its interview given to our colleagues at Crash.net.

Here are his words regarding the excellent 1'43.963 which took him to the top of the timesheet last Monday in Barcelona.

“First of all, we used the same tire as in qualifying, the Soft from this weekend, in order to get a reference, since the two new tires were based on that. Then we used the two new rears, which the other guys had used earlier in the day. As you can see from the time, they were good.

During my fast lap, honestly, if you had asked me the time, I would have told you anything but where it was, because I had a lot of vibration (from the rear). But that's because when you have too much grip, you have a lot of vibration. It hung really well on the way out, I can tell you that!

The problem was that we had too little power to the tire, because I didn't have any slip, but it wasn't accelerating because we weren't providing enough torque.
Our bike was very slow because we had an old engine and the only new parts from Honda were the fins.
This is why we are testing and we have given the guys some valuable information.

Honda is happy with the way we worked today. It's funny; they came and thought we had cut the chicane! (smile)
Of course, it's nice to be back at the top of the timesheet. But it's a Monday so that doesn't mean anything. But we certainly took some positives from today. “
