Among the victims of the chaos of the motorcycle changes which were the turning point of this Czech Republic Grand Prix, we can count among the Yamahas, and in particular Folger, Iannone and Aleix Espargaró in complete confusion, a Lorenzo called to the pit and who found himself… Without a motorbike. Too bad because he was in the lead at the time and had podium ambitions. But what to do when the motorcycle is not ready?
Because that’s what happened in the Ducati stand. We recalled a Lorenzo in the lead by suddenly understanding the trick played by Marc Márquez. Among the reds, we knew however that the GP17 in dry was not ready. But we thought we would waste less time in the pits than leaving the driver on the track. Result ? Por Fuera left… Nineteenth, with a hybrid machine that he dragged up to fifteenth place. A failure.
On this disaster, the Majorcan comments: “ our concern was the delay in the decision to prepare the bike for the dry. At Honda, we had a plan and everything was already ready for Márquez. Three turns before the pits, I received the order on my dashboard to return. Then I thought my bike was ready. But when I got home, the mechanics were putting it in dry condition, making the necessary adjustments and adjusting the suspensions. ».
« When I left, my bike felt weird. They told me afterwards that it was half for dry and half rain. I couldn't drive any faster. This year I've already made a lot of mistakes, but this time it was the team that made the mistake. We must accept it ».
At Ducati, they explain that this delay is due to the fact that in the event of a problem on the grid before the start, you have to keep a motorcycle in the same configuration, just in case. At Honda, we didn't ask ourselves this kind of question...
