To prepare for this Italian Grand Prix, which will precede the Catalan GP by just one week, Dani and his teammate Marc Marquez went to race last Wednesday on the Montmelo circuit. Pedrosa currently occupies second place in the provisional World Championship rankings and he has every intention of trying to stay there.

He is currently in a favorable period, with three podiums obtained in the last three Grands Prix, including his superb victory at home during the Spanish GP in Jerez.

The circuit of Mugello often smiled at Pedrosa, and he often stood on the podium there, even if only twice on the top step. Victorious in MotoGP in 2010 and in 250 cc in 3, he finished second five times in 2005, 2007 and 2012 in MotoGP, as well as in 2013 and 2003 in 2004 and 125. He also finished third in 250 in MotoGP.

According to Dani Pedrosa, “ The Mugello weekend will be very emotional. It's hard to lose a friend, especially one who became very close over three seasons as a teammate. I remember how much Nicky pushed, how hard he tried, never giving in while chasing his dream to win the MotoGP title.

“I also remember when I was suffering from compartment syndrome in 2015 and I announced that I was going to stop racing for a while after the first GP. He came to see me immediately to understand what had happened and he was the one who really advised the doctor who operated on me.

“He was such a kind person that I am so sad and sorry especially for his family. We think of him and keep him in our hearts when we go to Mugello, as we did at the Montmelo test last week.

“In Catalonia we drove on the revised route and worked on the Michelin tire before which we will have to use from now on. We are learning and we made some adjustments to the setup during the test day and at the end we got a better feeling. We have confirmed that our configuration base is good. We finished the test positively. »
