The 84th running of the Daytona 200 will serve as the opening round of the Championship MotoAmerica Supersport 2026. This change means that the Daytona 200 will award valuable Supersport points for the first time since 2014.
Supersport motorcycles will also be limited to a fuel tank capacity of 15,5 liters (4,09 US gallons), a reduction of 4 liters (1,05 US gallons) compared to previous years, which presents a significant challenge in terms of fuel consumption. Traditionally, Daytona is a two-stop race: the team completes refueling and tire changes in under 25 seconds, twice in 57 laps. With this reduced tank capacity, teams must now plan a third pit stop, demanding pinpoint accuracy from the mechanics.
With a record purse of $250,000, the financial stakes of the "Hall of World Speed" are commensurate with its prestige, including a $50,000 prize for the winner and a total prize pool of $100,000 for the top three. Another incentive: Dunlop, the official tire supplier for MotoAmerica and winner of 33 of the last 43 Daytona 200 races, will cover the tire costs for the highest-placed international rider.
This significant earning potential has attracted a global field of 49 elite Supersport riders, representing seven different manufacturers. The starting grid showcases world-class talent from four continents and seven nations – with a strong presence from the Americas, Europe, Australia, and South Africa – ready to battle it out in a 57-lap race on a banked circuit.
"The DAYTONA 200 is a unique race on the MotoAmerica calendar," commented Wayne Rainey, three-time 500cc Grand Prix world champion, two-time AMA Superbike champion, winner of the DAYTONA 200 in 1987 and president of MotoAmerica. "The Daytona 200 has immense prestige, which explains why it always attracts the best riders in the world. It's a difficult race to win. You have to take care of your bike for the 320 kilometers, your pit crew has to be flawless during the numerous stops, and for the final sprint, you have to perfectly manage the slipstream."
The favorites for the victory
Josh Herrin Rahal is playing the performance card at Daytona this year. Riding his Ducati Moto Panigale V2, he's aiming for a historic fourth consecutive victory at the Daytona 200. A win this year would allow him to equal the record for Daytona victories held by legends. Scott Russell and Miguel Duhamel.
The Rahal Ducati Moto team also boasts two other major assets in its pit. They include the star Superbike rider. PJ Jacobsen and the 18-year-old prodigy Kayla Yaakov, a candidate to become the first woman ever to win the race.
Richie Escalante et Tyler ScottScott and Escalante, who finished second and third respectively last year, return to the M4 ECSTAR Suzuki team for the Daytona 200, riding their Suzuki GSX-R750s. Scott will remain in Supersport for the entire season, while Escalante will return to the Superbike class after his Daytona 200 appearance. After past disappointments at Daytona, both riders are looking for redemption.
The four-time Superbike champion, Josh HayesHayes arrives at the Daytona 200 a month before his 51st birthday. While Hayes remains a formidable opponent, as evidenced by his legendary career and his 89th victory at Barber Motorsports Park in 2025, he still holds a special place in his impressive trophy collection for the Daytona 200, not to mention the Rolex Daytona Cosmograph that accompanies it. He will ride a 2026 Yamaha YZF-R9 for the BPR Racing team alongside the young rider. Brenden Ketelsen, who is participating in the Daytona 200.
International Challengers
The event's global prestige is enhanced by the presence of numerous top-level talents. Among them, the former MotoGP rider, Darryn binderBinder makes his highly anticipated MotoAmerica Supersport debut with the Celtic/Economy Tire + Lube/Warhorse HSBK Ducati team, winners of last year's Daytona 200. He intends to capitalize on the team's winning experience and the Ducati Panigale V2 to become the first South African to win the Daytona 200.
Other international competitors include Peter hickman, Isle of Man Tourist Trophy legend and fourth last year, who will ride a factory-supported Triumph PHR Performance, alongside his compatriot and teammate Davey Todd, for his first participation in the 200 Miles. The international field is also strengthened by the very versatile British driver Danny Webb, IRRC Superbike 2018 champion, on a Suzuki GSX-R750 from Team Classic.
Mission King Of The Baggers Daytona
The rivalry between Indian and Harley-Davidson is still going strong at Daytona International Speedway, where the two iconic American giants compete in the championship. Mission King of the BaggersThis category has become a true spectacle on the banked corners, where 286 kg touring motorcycles defy the laws of physics to reach speeds exceeding 306 km/h. With a starting grid almost perfectly balanced between the two manufacturers (six Harleys versus five Indians), all the ingredients are in place for another historic duel at Daytona.
Kyle WymanThe 2019 Daytona 200 champion leads the pack on his Harley-Davidson x Dynojet Factory Racing Road Glide. The reigning champion is the most decorated rider in the class, with an impressive number of victories. The overwhelming favorite, he has won the last five editions of the Mission King Of The Baggers at Daytona.
Wyman's teammate, the former MotoGP star rider and testing specialist Bradley Smith, intends to fully exploit the potential of his factory Harley-Davidson Road Glide to win the first race.

The J&P Cycles/Motul/Vance & Hines Factory Indian team will lead Indian Motorcycle's redemption campaign with a formidable trio comprised of the 2024 class champion and three-time Australian Superbike king, Troy Herfoss, joined by the multiple winners of the Mission King Of The Baggers race, Hayden Gillim et Rocco Landers.
The historic rivalry between Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycle in Daytona continues to rage, decades after their first battle on Daytona Beach in 1937.
Celebrating 50 years of Superbike racing
Although road racing has existed for decades, 1976 marked the creation of the first professional Superbike World Championship. This 50th anniversary symbolizes the transition from the two-stroke Grand Prix motorcycles of the Formula 1 category in the early 1970s to the production machines that enthusiasts can now purchase from their local dealer.
“MotoAmerica is proud to begin this historic season, as always, at the Daytona International Speedway.”, said Chuck Aksland, director of operations for MotoAmerica. "This is the ideal place to launch our 50th Superbike season and showcase the full diversity of the discipline, from elite Supersport and Twins Cup riders to the raw energy of the Mission King Of The Baggers and the Mission Super Hooligan National Championship. MotoAmerica is proud to kick off the 50th Superbike season by paying tribute to the heritage, power and evolution of the sport through the Daytona 200, the "Great American Motorcycle Race".
