After many twists and turns (see here), on September 29, 2017, Rupert Stadler (Audi, Volskwagen group) informed Claudio Domenicali by an internal memo that the German firm had closed the file on a possible sale of Ducati studied by the American Evercore.

There is still no official communication on the subject, but there are numerous indiscretions in Italy, in the press but also on the Facebook page of Bruna Rossetti, Ducati union representative: " We did it. Today we were informed that Ducati will continue to be part of the Audi-Volkswagen Group! I have to say that I am really happy with this news, because even when the sale now seemed certain we, as the IMF, continued to fight. »

In Borgo Panigale, we breathe and let our joy burst forth: thanks to the interested groups (Harley Davidson, Royal Enfield, Benetton, Polaris, the former owner Andrea Bonomi, etc.) but there is nothing left for sale!

No one knows the real reasons for closing the file, but what is certain is that the unions and the majority of Borgo Panigale managers, but also the German IG Metall union of Audi and Volkswagen, were fiercely opposed to this sale.

It is also rumored that despite sensational announcements (offer of 1,6 billion euros from Eicher Motors, owner of the Royal Enfield brand), nothing would be verified when making concrete offers...

Either way, all's well that ends well for everyone who found happiness in the development known under the wing of Audi. At least Ducati remains European!
