Fabio Di Giannantonio's 2024 season ended prematurely, with the Italian having to undergo shoulder surgery to try to erase the pain that had not left him since the German Grand Prix. Needless to say, the latter handicapped him for a large part of his championship. When it came to rating his performance over the season as a whole, the main interested party was nevertheless lenient with himself.
The winner of the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix failed to repeat his feat this season. A year in which he did not even reach the podium. However, he managed to finish tenth in the championship, ahead of his teammate. His performances also allowed him to secure a promising contract with Ducati for next year.
The GP25 – which should be the best machine on the grid – will be entrusted to him in the same way as Marc Marquez and Pecco Bagnaia. A bike that should make it easier for him to achieve his goals.
Before that, Fabio Di Giannantonio was asked to look back one last time on the seventeen main races he contested in 2024, to rate his season. In a video capsule published by his team, VR46, on their social networks, the latter was rather proud of his campaign.
“I will give 8 out of 10, because I think my level of riding this year was quite high, first confides the Transalpine. I've been really, really strong and consistent throughout the season. But we've always lacked something to finish on the podium. That's why [I give myself the grade] 8/10."
One race, however, left a bigger impression on him than the others, as he came so close to finishing on the podium. A weekend of competition that he considered his best of the season when the question was asked. "Phillip Island, My fourth place at Phillip Island, because we put on a show, continues Fabio Di Giannantonio. We were very fast, with a big pace. And we were very, very close to finishing on the podium."
A weekend during which Fabio Di Giannantonio also believes he made his best overtaking move of the season. The circuit's series of fast bends hosted many battles, including the one between Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez for victory on Sunday. Personally, the #49 will remember his successful attempt on Franco Morbidelli, during the Saturday event. "I think it's also in Australia. Maybe during the Sprint, in turns 7 and 8, on the outside and then the inside."
