His level of competitiveness was of course somewhat overshadowed by the brilliant performance of his teammate, but there is no denying that Jonas Folger has taken a step further since the Catalan Grand Prix.

However, his weekend in the Netherlands started rather badly with a high-speed crash during the first lap of the first session, due to oil spilled on the track by Andrea Dovizioso.

However, the German driver quickly got back into the swing of things to find himself second at the end of the first day of testing. The rain making FP3 virtual, this direct passage into Q2 then allowed him to insert his M1 in Tech3 colors between the two official machines of the Movistar Yamaha team.

In the wet or in the dry, Johann Folger is therefore learning his profession as a MotoGP rider, at a speed certainly less spectacular than that of his teammate, but still very satisfactory for the Tech3 team which thus makes a shot band.

Jonas Folger : “I'm really happy with this result because, frankly, I was a little worried about how the qualification would go. At the start of the day when it was raining I didn't feel entirely confident on the bike and as a result when we knew it would be wet in Q2 I was slightly concerned. However, in the end we made some adjustments and improved the feeling I had on the bike. On my last lap, I set a pretty good time which put me in the top six. This is my best qualifying performance so far, which is really positive. It looks like it could be a dry race tomorrow, and that's what we're hoping for because I have good pace in the dry and we've had some encouraging times. However, it doesn't matter too much what we get, because I think we are prepared for any eventuality. »
