In 2019, there will be a new type of motorcycle on the Grand Prix circuits. It will challenge the clock in silence and will not emit the slightest emission from its exhausts which will be non-existent. And for good reason, since the machine, an FIM Moto-e, will be electric (see here). A new era ? In keeping with the times in any case since the electrification of ranges is already taking place at a forced pace in automobiles. What is the opinion of the manufacturers on this electrical formula future ? Lin Jarvis speaks for Yamaha.

Powerful, gleaming and roaring machines, this has been the image of mechanical competition for ages. A spell that could well be exorcised since the combination no longer smells of sanctity with an era that claims to be ecological and virtuous. So, to survive, you have to adapt, and electric formulas are flourishing.

Mahindra, which was until then engaged in motorcycle Grand Prix, decided to review its copy to concentrate on Formula E which is the counterpart with batteries of Formula 1. Something to think about and Dorna has phosphorus to offer a sort of eMotoGP on the horizon 2019. Lin Jarvis, for Yamaha, gives his feeling: “ I think the motorcycle industry is currently a little behind on the subject compared to the automobile industry. But it should be noted that many manufacturers are involved in Formula E ».

« This exceeds expectations. Because the emotion of racing comes from the sound of the engines. We are all from the oil generation! But we must consider this Formula E which is developing and attracting more and more brands which are stopping some of their programs to invest in electric vehicles. ».

« I am convinced that, in the coming years, in the motorcycle industry, electric will play an increasingly important role. I think it's a good time for Dorna to get into this kind of discipline, but it will take time. It will probably never replace MotoGP, but it can assert itself in other categories, such as enduro or motocross which operate in a more sensitive environment. I think electric has a better future in these cases. ».
