The 24 Hours motorcycle race will still be without an audience...

Given the current health context, travel restriction measures between certain countries and gatherings in force in France, the 44th edition of the 24 Heures Motos, scheduled for April 17 and 18, will be held behind closed doors. The entry period for competitors opens today and will close on March 18, 2021. Last year, the event, postponed several times, brought together 39 machines.

The Automobile Club de l'Ouest, in agreement with the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (END), the French Motorcycling Federation (FFM) and Eurosport Events, promoter of the FIM EWC World Championship, has decided to organize the 44th edition of the 24 Heures Motos behind closed doors.

Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest: » For the second year in a row, we unfortunately have to organize the 24 Heures Motos behind closed doors.. First of all, I have a thought for the fans of this event, once again deprived of the circuit. Despite the absence of spectators, it was necessary for the competitors and their partners to maintain this event. We hope to return to normal very soon to share these great sporting moments together. "

Jorge Viegas, President of the International Motorcycling Federation: » Despite a second year without an audience, I am sure that the 24 2021 Heures Motos will be breathtaking. I would like to thank the ACO, the FFM and Eurosport Events for the efforts made to once again offer a first-rate spectacle to the many viewers and on digital platforms "

The 24 Heures Motos behind closed doors: “ It’s obviously heartbreaking”

Sébastien Poirier, President of the French Motorcycling Federation: » It is obviously heartbreaking to relive the 24h Motos behind closed doors and thus deprive the many fans of such a community event.. For organizational reasons, the decision had to be taken now by the ACO and I agree with it. In this respect, I would like to salute the work of the ACO, the promoter Eurosport Events and the FIM which has made it possible to keep this event on the calendar, which we will follow with passion on the various TV and digital media.x. »

Francois Ribeiro, Head of Eurosport Events: » The decision to go behind closed doors was painful to make with the ACO but was taken quickly for the good of the championship and the teams. The ACO was the first circuit to organize a race behind closed doors in 2020 and we considered it preferable with the ACO to keep the 24 Heures Motos on its April date so as not to destabilize the rest of the calendar which will also take place behind closed doors if health conditions require it.
