Shortly after 11 a.m. French time, the Safety Car, behind which the drivers participating in the 8 Hours of Sepang had returned to their places, entered the safety lane, thus freeing the pack of motorcycles for the real start of the race.
Immediately, the #21 Yamaha of Michael van der Mark escaped in front of the #5 Honda of Mike Di Meglio but the latter, very fast in the wet, managed to take the lead after only a few laps.
The race was therefore launched, but for a maximum duration of almost 3 hours, with undoubtedly already discussions about the allocation of points...
