BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team sets a new track record with the new M1000RR during the final day of the official Pre-Test of the 24 2021 Heures Motos at Le Mans.

The two-day Pre-Test of the 24 2021 Heures Motos ends with a new track record. At the Bugatti circuit in Le Mans, the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team, the official factory squadron that races in FIM EWC, set a new track record for the EWC category, with a time of 1'35"133 achieved by Markus Reiterberger on the new M1000RR. A time of a very high level a few days before the 24 hours which will take place on April 17 and 18.

BMW BREAKING THE RECORD
For its second full-time season in the FIM EWC, the official BMW Motorrad team is making no secret of its ambitious intentions. After a good year 2019/2020 with two podiums (Bol d'Or and Sepang) to its credit, the team led by Werner Daemen has high expectations for the 2021 season. The new BMW M1000RR is well born, has not presented with reliability problems and runs with… frightening lap times! Markus Reiterberger, joined in the starting team by Ilya Mikhalchik et Xavi Fores, with Kenny Foray in reserve, repeated his best time from yesterday with a sensational time. Thanks to the 1'35"133 recorded in the morning, he indeed demolished the previous record established in 2017 by Randy De Puniet (Kawasaki SRC) in 1’35″730. An extraordinary benchmark, all achieved with a BMW M1000RR on Dunlop tires, prepared to complete a 24-hour race.

ADVERSARIES ON THE HUNT
The #37 BMW not only performed well in terms of speed, but also impressed in terms of consistency and number of laps completed. Over the two days, with a total of 14 hours available, 566 laps were completed (with both motorcycles), which corresponds to 2 kilometers. Translation: 368/2 the distance of a 3-hour race. It's been quite a journey, as evidenced by the gaps suffered by the other top teams in the top category of the EWC. The holders of the trophy, FCC TSR Honda, remain 24 thousandths behind (935'1″36) with the CBR 068RR-R driven by Josh Hook, Mike Di Meglio et Yuki Takahashi. The reigning world champions of Yoshimura SERT, in 1'36″190 with Sylvain Guintoli flanked by Xavier Simeon et Gregg Black, take more than 1″.
Under 1'36", but far from the BMW's monster times, VRD Igol Yamaha (1'36"476) and Kawasaki SRC (1'36"527 during the first outing with Dunlop) showed up. In the list of official teams, in the absence of YART Yamaha, the Ducati-ERC team stopped the clock in 1'37″276 after 300 laps with the two Panigale V4 Rs at their disposal.

Among the news of the day, the Moto Ain program stands out. The French team, which triumphed the previous two years in the Superstock class, will make its debut this year in the top category of the EWC, renewing its confidence in Roberto Rolfo et Robin Mulhauser. Next to them (slowed down this morning by a technical problem), we will find Randy De Puniet. The announcement, anticipated on these pages for several weeks, arrived during testing and will guarantee Pierre Chapuis' team a trio of extremely fast drivers.

SUPERSTOCK BATTLE
Speaking of Italy, the brothers Federico et Christian Napoli will be present at this two-day event, competing for 24 hours with the Energie Endurance 91 Kawasaki Superstock. Still talking about Stock, the BMRT 3D team was the first during the two days of testing, but absent during this second day of testing with the two Kawasakis demolished ( See here !) by falls yesterday. They will have time to repair everything between now and the race weekend of April 17 and 18…
