EWC Bol d’Or 2021: Yoshimura SERT Motul wins a crazy race!

After 24 hours of effort, Greg Black, Xavier Simeon et Sylvain Guintoli triumph at the 84th Bol d'Or. Yoshimura SERT Motul led this race masterfully after 703 laps, leaving nothing to his opponents. However, the event was turbulent and many favorites were forced to retire. Yamaha Moto Ain finished second at 20 laps, ahead Kawasaki BMRT 3D Maxxess Nevers at 24 turns. Here is the story of this crazy race.

 

From the start, three contenders asserted themselves. Yoshimura SERT MotulWith the Suzuki GSXR-1000 #1, there Honda CB R1000 RR-R #5 from FCC TSR Honda France as well as the Kawasaki ZX 10R #11 committed by Webike SRC Kawasaki France Trickstar. The Yamaha YZF-R1 #7 from YART – Yamaha Official Team EWC once again missed his start and found himself somewhat behind. The pilots engage in a sensational battle for our greatest pleasure. 

 

 

The fifth thief, the BMW M1000RR #37, experienced vibration problems from the start. Kenny Foray stopped prematurely and already, a gap was compromising the chances of the German brand. YART quickly rose again and confirmed its favorite status. In the first hours, Yuki Takahashi, pilot FCC TSR Honda France, falls twice, forcing unexpected stops.

 

The differences are stable at nightfall. Suzuki dominates Yamaha and Kawasaki. Thunderclap at 22 p.m. : The engine of the Kawasaki #11 abandons the team. At the same time, the ZX 10R du Tati Team Beringer Racing, well placed, suffered a fall and had to stop for 20 minutes to repair. This machine will be stopped again at the beginning of the morning, to come out again at the beginning of the afternoon. Sad end for the Greens.

Right after, BMW loses #37 also on engine failure! In barely an hour, two of the five favorites are out. Disbelief in the stands. At midnight, the rain begins. Xavier Simeon, poleman on the Suzuki #1, falls without gravity and leaves the lead for a few moments to the YART Yamaha.

The night is merciless. There Panigale V4R #6 ERC Endurance Ducati, then third, suffers a fall at high speed and must retire. There Honda FCC #5, already in difficulty, had to retire due to a mechanical breakdown. The last twist comes after two in the morning: the YART is also forced to abandon, leaving the field open to SERT.

In fact, the Yamaha YZF-R1 #96 Moto Ain inherits second place overall, 13 laps behind the leading machine. Less than two hours from the finish, a small fall from the front signed Robin Mulhauser do not doubt this second place. The third EWC entry crossed the finish line in 6th place. In fact, the Yamaha #333 VRD Igol Experiences, coming from nowhere, finished third in category. No additional suspense until the arrival on this side. The team manager, Yannick Lucot, says more: “It was a great opportunity. Congratulations to SERT, they are impressive. I'm very sad for the other teams who had mechanical problems, but that's the game."

 

 

The category Superstock was not as eventful. In fact, the Kawasaki #24 BMRT 3D Maxxess Nevers led 95% of the race, and only had to stop to change exhaust lines at midday. A short passage of 20 minutes which will not cost him third place overall. Several towers behind represent the Honda #41 RAC41-Chromeburner and Suzuki #44 No Limits Motor Team. These last two machines bickered but it was ultimately in this order that the line was cut. 

 

 

La Metiss MS20 EVO 21 #48, the only one entered in the experimental category, finished the Bol in 15^e position. Logically, Yoshimura SERT Motul takes control of the world championship. Second consecutive victory for BMRT 3D Maxxess Nevers who wins the title of Superstock world champion.
