Money is a generally taboo subject in motorcycle racing. When it is mentioned, they are often approximations and estimates more or less close to reality, and very rarely confirmed.

About ten days ago, we revealed to you the amount of finish bonuses for the legendary Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race, which is scheduled to take place on November 1 in Japan under a modified procedure (see here).

With 85 euros promised to the winning team, the event is financially attractive, even if that is not enough to explain the interest of the Japanese manufacturers, especially as the income drops quickly as the places go by.

But what about in France, for 24-hour races? We may race for glory, but certainly not for money, because even the team that wins the 24 Heures Motos or the Bol d'Or will not cover its entry costs.

Pitiful, some will say, the nobility of the discipline will be answered by others, the fact remains that we are far from an operation like the IRTA was able to put in place for the Grands Prix, and that Endurance remains in fact a discipline amateur based above all on passion and volunteerism. Some welcome it, others deplore it, but, even apart from the current cries linked to Covid-19, is there really an economic market to be able to do otherwise? We will try to get some responses from interested parties…
