Double test for the new Honda CBR 1000RR-R Fireblade in configuration 8 hours of Suzuka 2020: HRC and the HARC-PRO team at work.
The uncertainties linked to the Suzuka 8 Hours in 2020 have not disrupted Honda's plans. On the legendary roller coaster track, the house with the golden wings continues the development of the new CBR 1000RR-R with a view to the “ race of races ". Postponed from July 19 to November 1, the 8 Hours at the Rising Sun thus gave HRC more time to develop the new motorcycle, obtaining interesting feedback.

Inutile de dire que les tests de la nouvelle Fireblade en configuration “8tai” ont maintenant commencé depuis des mois. Au milieu de la crise de la Covid-19, toute l’équipe HRC était présente à Suzuka en mars dernier. Takumi Takahashi was summoned for the occasion, but the current World Superbike rider suffered a ruinous fall near the chicane, resulting in fractures. With the 2017 All Japan Superbike champion out of the game, HRC therefore relied on Hiroshi Aoyama for testing. The reason ? No other driver was available: due to Covid-19, the official driver Dominique Aegerter, despite himself, was unable to leave Europe…
In the meantime, activities at Suzuka resumed as if nothing had happened. Over the past 3 weeks, two different test sessions have been recorded on the figure-eight circuit. The first on June 16-17, the second on July 1-2. Maximizing the available time, Honda diversified its work: on the one hand with the HRC team (test team), on the other hand by relying on the HARC-PRO team.
LEADER HARC-PRO
Bien que parmi les équipes admises de plein droit aux 8 Heures de Suzuka 2020, il n’y a toujours pas de certitude absolue quant à la présence ou non de la HRC lors du week-end de course. L’équipe HARC-PRO Honda, triomphante à 3 reprises (2010, 2013 et 2014), reprend ainsi une grande partie du programme de travail. Lors du premier test de deux jours, elle a “prêté” son pilote Ryo Mizuno au HRC pour les tests, en s’appuyant sur le sien, Teppei Nagoe, engagé cette année dans le ST1000 (Superstock) après le titre de J-GP2 remporté l’année dernière. Ces derniers jours, Mizuno est revenu en force au HARC-PRO, pouvant tester le potentiel de la nouvelle CBR RR-R dans différentes configurations et avec différentes suspensions (HRC avec Öhlins, HARC-PRO avec Showa).
DURATION TEST
In the coming weeks, Honda has already planned a new test session at Suzuka, this time based more on endurance tests than on the pursuit of pure speed. Alongside the HARC-PRO team, other Honda teams from the All Japan Superbike and the 8 Hours will also be working: among them, Shinichi Ito's Keihin Honda Dream SI Racing which has entered Ryuichi Kiyonari and Kazuma Watanabe.
CHRONOS
Pour ce qui est des références chronométriques, Ryo Mizuno a tourné
à un rythme de 2’07”. Pas si mal, bien qu’à l’heure actuelle, la
concurrence semble en avoir plus dans la poignée. Yoshimura Suzuki,
s’appuyant uniquement sur kazuki watanabe lors de
la précédente séance d’essai, a tourné dans les 2’05” avant de
terminer par une chute ruineuse. Le week-end de la course de
novembre prochain verra cependant beaucoup plus de références
chronométriques. Si la pluie le permet…
