Despite the efforts made by the FIM, Eurosport Events and the organizers of the 8Hours of Oschersleben, it was not possible to agree on a new slot to reschedule the German round of the 2021 FIM EWC World Championship.

A few weeks ago, the 8 Hours of Oschersleben race, initially scheduled for May 23, had to be postponed due to health restrictions imposed in Germany.

Since then, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, Eurosport Events, promoter of the FIM EWC, and the race organizers in Germany have worked together to reinstate the 8 Hours of Oschersleben on the 2021 calendar.

Their priority was first to offer the teams a new calendar adapted to their organization which takes into account the other changes of dates of the 24 Heures Motos (June 12 and 13) and the 12 Hours of Estoril (July 17) as well as the organizations the Bol d'Or on September 18 and 19 and the Suzuka 8 Hours on November 7.

It was also about finding a niche offering the best international visibility for the event after the end of the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Given these requirements, the only favorable window selected was mid-August.

Despite these joint efforts, the Oschersleben circuit was unfortunately unable to release itself from commitments already made on that date.

The 8 Hours of Oschersleben will therefore not take place this FIM EWC 2021 season.

François Ribeiro, Head of Eurosport Events
« We really regret not being able to integrate the 8 Hours of Oschersleben into the 2021 calendar. Oschersleben has been part of the FIM EWC events since 1999. It is also an important event for the German and Eastern European teams who are more and more people are entering the championship. »

Jorge Viegas, President of the FIM
“Although we were unable to find an alternative date for the traditional 8 Hours of Oschersleben, we look forward to hosting this race again next year. In the meantime, the remainder of the 2021 FIM EWC calendar will proceed as planned, but keeping in mind that we must maintain flexibility until we are done with the pandemic. We sincerely thank everyone involved for the continued efforts. Please stay strong! »
