After the Italian Grand Prix, we wondered about the data released by Brembo and, more particularly, about the increase from 19 to 27% of braking time passed on the Mugello circuit.

Well, Brembo very kindly contacted us to enlighten us; thanks to them !

Until 2015, Brembo only took into account “real braking” whereas, since this year, the Italian firm also includes every touch of the brakes, even small, as, one can imagine, each small correction to the brake in intermediate areas.

This is why we now arrive at a total of 27% at Mugello, or not far from a third of the time; impressive !

Furthermore, Brembo specifies that the sheets they publish are based on the data from the previous year, slightly corrected based on technological improvements in motorcycles and their components. For new circuits, like this year's Red Bull Ring, they use data collected during tests.
Obviously, in all cases, the arrival of Michelin may very slightly influence these figures.

Finally, final clarification, the ranking of the best brakers in San Donato was broadcast on Saturday evening and is directly linked to qualifying. It takes into account braking time, deceleration and distance traveled during braking.
And, that day, it was good Valentino Rossi the best brakeman!

Thanks to Brembo to read our articles and provide us with all these explanations.
