F1 – Esteban Ocon, the record he could have done without

Ocon now holds the record for the most races without pole position in F1: 182 frustrating attempts despite recognized talent.

In the ultra-competitive world of Formula 1, some records become legends. Others, more cruel, cling to the skin of even the most talented drivers. This is now the case for Esteban Ocon.

A record to forget…as quickly as possible for Ocon

Following the Chinese Grand Prix, the Frenchman set an unenviable record: 182 races contested without ever securing pole position. An impressive figure… but one that highlights an anomaly in the career of a driver otherwise renowned for his consistency and professionalism.

Since its beginnings in 2016, Or with He has often managed to extract the maximum from his single-seater, despite never having the equipment to consistently challenge for first place in qualifying. His best performance remains a third-place finish on the grid, achieved three times: in Italy in 2017, in Belgium in 2018, and in Monaco in 2023. Each time, pole position seemed within reach… but never materialized.

This record allows him to surpass another Frenchman. Romain Grosjean, who previously held this total with 181 races without a pole position. Behind them, Pierre Gasly This completes the French trio with 180 participations without ever having reached the front of the grid. A striking coincidence that illustrates the often obstacle-strewn path of this generation of French drivers.

Corn (Mais) Or with is not alone in this unusual ranking. Well-known names such as Martin Brundle, Johnny Herbert or, Derek Warwick They are also included. All were solid, respected drivers, but never rewarded with a pole position.

One essential question remains: Or with Will he be able to reverse the trend? In a Formula 1 where performance depends heavily on the car, the feat seems difficult with a Haas F1 Team still under reconstruction.

But F1 has often held surprises. And if this record were ever to fall, there's no doubt that pole position would be...Or with would have a very special flavor.
