The sun is still present on the Jerez circuit to host the only Moto2 race of the weekend.
With a half-second advantage in qualifying over championship leader Eric Granado (Kalex, Promoracing), Ricky Cardus (Kalex, Team Stylobike) appears on paper as the favorite for this fifth round of the European Moto2 championship.
When the red lights go out, Ricky Cardus maintains his advantage until the first turn in front Eric Granado et Hector Garzo (Tech3, Team Wimu CNS) while javier orellana (Tech3, Team Wimu CNS) gets squeezed in the second curve by Steven Odendal (NTS, NTS Sportscode T-Pro) and fall.
The positions settle down quickly and it is soon a stretched group of these drivers who break away from a peloton that is itself very sparse: Cardus, Granado, Lukas Tulovic (Kalex, Forward Junior Team), Odendaal, Garzo and Dimas Ekky (Kalex, Astra Honda Racing Team).
Gradually, Garzo could not keep up with the pace of the first five while, conversely, Granado managed to connect with Cardus halfway through the race. As a result, the Stylobike team rider increases the pace and once again widens a gap of a good half-second on the Brazilian who then follows him at a distance.
A little too close to the limit, Hector Garzo ended up falling 5 laps from the checkered flag, leaving his 6th place to Joe Roberts.
The interest of the last laps focuses on the battle for third place between the South African Odendaal and the Indonesian Ekky, but ultimately, no overtaking will upset a ranking acquired since mid-race.
Cardus, Granado and Odendaal therefore left and arrived in the same order.
In the championship, Cardus takes five points from Granado who still leads by 20 points (see here).
