The second meeting of the 2020 FIM CEV Repsol season takes us to the Autodromo do Algarve in Portugal. Conditions were hot during qualifying, with track temperatures over 45 degrees.

Nevertheless, the pace was high and so was the competition, since Peter Acosta (KTM, MT-Foundation 77) took pole position in the FIM Moto3™ Junior World Championship, while Yari Montella (Speed Up, Team Ciatti – Speed Up) in pole position in the European Moto2™ Championship and David Alonso (Openbank Aspar Team) in pole position in the Hawkers European Talent Cup are riding the momentum of their victories last week…

After qualifying 2nd at Estoril, Pedro Acosta therefore managed to do better in Portimão, obtaining his first pole position in the FIM Moto3™ Jr WCh! Less than 2 tenths behind him during qualifying, it was not the man who deprived him of victory at the finish line by only 0,003 seconds, Xavier Artigas (Honda, Leopard Impala Junior Team), as stated in the official press release, but Lorenzo Fellon (Honda, Estrella Galicia 0,0 Junior Team), author of the second time, 86 thousandths behind the poleman.

The young Frenchman was penalized for a time, supposedly for riding on the green part off the track, before the officials returned him to his initial position. He will therefore start second tomorrow at 14 p.m., alongside Xavier Artigas, the winner of Estoril. This time, we hope for the first points for our representation also made up of Clement Rougé (Husqvarna, Laglisse Academy) who will start 19th and Gabin Planques (Honda, Larresport Carré d’or) 27th.

In the European Moto2™ Championship, Yari Montella (Speed Up, Team Ciatti – Speed Up) continued its domination of the 2020 season. A pole with an advantage of more than 4 tenths over Niki Tuuli (Kalex, Team Stylobike) makes him the man to beat. Lukas Tulovic (Kalex, Kiefer Racing) ranks 3rd while Adam Norrodin (Kalex, Liqui Moly IntactGP SIC Junior Team) qualified 4th, an improvement on his 9th place in Estoril.

David Alonso (Openbank Aspar Team) was once again the undisputed star in the European Talent Cup for the 2nd time in 2020, taking pole position by just under a quarter of a second on Zonta Van Den Goorbergh (Team SuperB), while the Spaniard Alberto Ferrández (Cuna de Campeones), 12 years old, obtains 3rd place on the grid.

French side, Matéo Pédeneau (MHP-Tech Solutions) will start 23rd, Bartholomé Perrin (French Speed Team) 31st, Amaury Mizera (MHP-Tech Solutions) 34rd and Marceau Lapierre (MVK Dani Rivas Talent) 37th.
