Leader of the Moto2 World Championship with 21 points ahead of Tom Lüthi, 91 over Miguel Oliveira and 93 over Alex Marquez, Morbidelli won this year in Qatar, Argentina, Austin, Le Mans, Assen, Germany , in Austria and finally last Sunday in Aragon.

Matteo Aglio took stock with him for gpone.com before the last four Grands Prix, and then the move to the MotoGP category, still within the Marc VDS Estrella Galicia team, where he will find this time as a teammate Tom Luthi.

In Aragon, during your great duel with Mattia Pasini, were you thinking about the championship at that time?

“For a few laps I thought about what to do. But I didn't want to be dissatisfied, so trying to win was the right choice.

It was your first duel with Mattia for victory in Moto2…

“But we did so many battles on the ranch and in go-karts! In my opinion, the fact that we knew each other so well made this battle even more adrenaline pumping.

What did you say after the finish line?

“We kissed, Mattia congratulated me, and I congratulated him. He only won one Grand Prix this year, but we both had a fantastic race.

On the subject of victories, 8 for you this season.

“It’s a lot (laughs) and I didn’t expect it. No matter how it ends, it will be a year that will always be in my heart.

Lots of victories, but little advantage over Luthi: only 21 points.

“I'm not worried about that, it just means Tom is having a great championship. He earned less than me, but he was very consistent. It's a clash between two different philosophies. I won a lot of races, but I also made mistakes, while in his case consistency made the difference.

There are still 4 races, what is the plan?

“I will attack on all avenues. Last year, I was good on all these circuits, but so was Luthi. I am not changing my strategy, I will do my best in each race.

The fight against Luthi will continue next year...

“We will be teammates in MotoGP. He will be my reference, so it would be better to beat him this year (Laughs).

You are also approaching the moment when you will ride a Honda MotoGP for the first time. Can you not think about it?

"I'll be honest, I can't (laughs). It's hard not to think about MotoGP, and the closer I get to the end of the championship, the more closely I watch MotoGP races. I think about it in my bed before falling asleep. I practically have my brain split between two categories... but when I'm on the track or in my pit, I'm focused on Moto2 100%. »
