It was raining for the start of the second free practice session, with 11° for the air temperature and 14° for that of the wet asphalt. Improving the times achieved in the morning, on a track that was much less wet, seemed hypothetical.

Most drivers rode despite the bad weather, with rain possibly returning later, probably not for the race (according to the weather) but perhaps for the qualifying session. It was raining heavily during this FP2, but the drivers wanted to experience the new surface in the wet. Tatsuki Suzuki set the first time in 1'58.913.

Tatsuki Suzuki retained the lead in 1'58.131, 0.01 ahead Will Bendsneyder. Danny Kent, former Moto3 World Champion and wild card this weekend for Aki Ajo, set the fastest time in 1'56.763. Nicholas Bulega took the lead in 1'55.474, then gabriel rodrigo ahead of him in 1'55.165. Niccolo Antonelli rose to second position, 0.2 behind Rodrigo.

Bulega progressed in 1'54.823, 0.1 ahead of Antonelli. Joan mir, the leader of the World Championship, took the lead in 1'54.730, whileAdam Norrodin, the fastest pilot in the morning, fell without seriousness. Tony Arbolino was also falling. Andrea Migno came second, 0.02 behind Mir. Jules Danilo was sixteenth, a quarter of an hour from the checkered flag. No driver improved their time from the first session.

Livio Law fell without gravity. Marco Bezzecchi, the pilot of the CIP teamAlain Bronec, took the lead on his Mahindra in 1'54.207. Then Danny Kent succeeded him in 1'53.558.

Danny Kent accelerated the pace in 1'53.295, then he fell shortly after without seriousness. This was also the case for Gabriel Rodrigo who fractured his collarbone. George Martin took command in 1'52.874 and he finished this second session in the lead ahead of Danny Kent, Niccolo Antonelli, Tatsuki Suzuki, Fabio di Giannantonio and Nicolo Bulega. Jules Danilo ranked sixteenth
