Johann Zarco was opposed to Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso for only two qualifying places in Q2. Also participating were Sam Lowes, Alvaro Bautista, Sylvain Guintoli, Hector Barbera, Danilo Petrucci, Andrea Iannone, Aleix Espargaro, Tito Rabat and Jonas Folger. The level of the plateau was high to say the least.
During the first run, Jorge Lorenzo took the lead in 1'33.542, ahead of Bautista and Barbera. Then Bautista moved into first position in 1'33.022, 0.2 ahead of Zarco. Johann improved to 1'32.687, 0.1 ahead of Pedrosa.
5 minutes from the checkered flag, Sam Lowes fell. Dovizioso (at Pedrosa's aspi) went second, 0.04 behind Zarco who continued without stopping in the pits (on soft tires at the front and rear), unlike the others.
Zarco improved to 1'32.509, 0.04 ahead of Pedrosa. The Spaniard took command in 1'32.478, 0.06 ahead of Johann.
Andrea Dovizioso took the lead in 1'32.298 and qualified with Johann Zarco.
