Le French Superbike Championship is back on the hilly European Circuit of Pau Arnos. After a 2023 edition which brought together more than 5000 enthusiasts, the Moto Club de Pau Arnos and the French Motorcycling Federation will welcome, on July 27 and 28, the elite of French motorcycle speed. Over the past few races, the number of title contenders has narrowed, but the fight between these drivers is only intensifying. In the premier category, four men stand out and should keep fans in suspense until the end of the season. The Béarnaise stage could constitute a decisive turning point before the final straight of the French Superbike Championship.
SUPERBIKE: FORAY AND TECHER NECK TO ELBOW
The premier category once again offers a high-flying spectacle this season, and battles that will be remembered. The last stage notably saw two drivers stand out, and the atypical Pau Arnos circuit should also be the scene of some competitive battles… With exactly the same number of points (151), Kenny FORAY (BMW Tecmas – Michelin) and Alan TECHER (Honda Team CBO Racing France – Michelin) will try to gain an advantage over each other to take the lead towards the final sprint.
However, it will be necessary to contain the other candidates who have not given up: Mike DI MEGLIO (Honda Team CBO Racing France – Michelin), 3rd overall and back in great shape after his injury, and Grégory LEBLANC (Ducati TWR – Pirelli), 4th and who is having his best season since his 2015 title.
In the top 5 and first Yamaha rider in the general classification, Mathieu GINES (Team Yamaha 41 Performance – Michelin) is still in the running for the places of honor and will try to ward off fate on a track which had seen him fall heavily in 2023 Finally, Martin RENAUDIN (Honda Moto&GP Addict – Michelin), unlucky during the last stage, will be back on the handlebars of his Honda and will aim for the podium as usual. He is currently 6th in the provisional ranking.
In the Challenger category, made up of the least experienced drivers, Loïc ARBEL (BMW TECMAS – Michelin) only experienced one setback at Magny-Cours. Nothing to dampen his confidence, he who occupies the lead in the championship, far ahead of Ludovic RIZZA (Yamaha – Pirelli) at 69 points. After remarkable performances at Magny-Cours, the very young Kilian AEBI (Team LMS Suzuki – Pirelli) now occupies 3rd place in this ranking and will try to consolidate it at Pau Arnos.
600, 300, OGP, MOTO 4-5 AND SIDE-CAR: A SHOW AT ALL LEVELS:
In 600cc, the cards were redistributed. It is now the talented Corentin PEROLARI (Honda – Michelin) who leads the way. Having never previously occupied any place other than the podium, he is ahead of his main competitor of the season. This is the combative Enzo DE LA VEGA (Yamaha – Pirelli), 32 points behind but able to get closer. The Yamaha rider fully intends to seize the Wild Card offered to riders, equipped with Yamaha, by the FFM and the GMT94 for the French round of the World SBK at Magny-Cours in September 2024. Regarding the 3rd place in the championship, it is now occupied by Alexy NEGRIER (Yamaha – Michelin), firmly established with his 145 points which should ensure his best ranking since his arrival in the category.
As for the new generation machines, Matthieu GREGORIO (Ducati – Pirelli), constantly evolving since the start of the season, has taken control of the championship. Guillaume ANTIGA (Ducati – Michelin) is relegated to second place ahead of Hugo DE CANCELLIS (Ducati – Pirelli), 3rd.
In the Speed Generation, the Objectif Grand Prix by MOTUL category is not left out. In Pre-Moto 3, Florian FRANÇOIS (BEON – Pirelli) does not intend to give his pursuers a chance. He had 192 points when he arrived in Pau. On the other hand, a battle rages between Ethan DUFOSSE CERNEAU (BEON – Pirelli), second and Matteo BERGER (BEON – Pirelli), third, with only 10 points difference.
In NSF 250, nothing is decided. The leader Jimmy PRIMAUT (Honda – Pirelli) and his 113 points will have a hard time facing Louis PAPLARD (Honda – Pirelli), Rémy SANJUAN (Honda – Pirelli) and Henri MIGNOT (Honda – Pirelli), all less than 10 points behind. provisional classification.
The 300 category also has its share of surprises in store for us since two young drivers are now standing out. Dorian JOULIN (Yamaha – Pirelli), leader with 123 points, is ahead of Arthur MASSY (Yamaha – Pirelli), second with 115 points. This small gap promises a breathtaking spectacle on this very special circuit.
Finally, for sidecar drivers, the Pau-Arnos European Circuit will be the scene of yet another exciting spectacle. The hilly curves of this track will only highlight the level of precision of these drivers from another planet. If PEUGEOT / PEUGEOT (F600) should seize the title thanks to its overwhelming lead, the other crews can still shine.
