Just a few days after achieving his best result of the season at Assen, Loris Baz headed to Germany and the Sachsenring for the ninth event on the calendar, the last before the summer break. The Frenchman took advantage of the inaugural day to get his bearings aboard his Ducati Desmosedici GP15 on this demanding circuit, the surface of which was resurfaced last year.
Credited with the 22nd time of the morning on a dry track in 1'22.989 less than 1.5 seconds behind Andrea Dovizioso, the Haut-Savoyard was then able to assess the behavior of his machine in the wet during the second session. Faced with conditions that were tricky to say the least, he stood out by finishing 13th, sandwiched between Pol Espargaró and Mika Kallio.
Despite the rain also expected during the qualifying day, the Ducati rider hopes to be able to secure the reward of a place in Q2.
Loris Baz (22th) :
« The first session didn't go too bad. I have always experienced some difficulties on this route, but we were able to find solutions quickly. My ideal time was pretty fast and I'm convinced that by making a few adjustments we can be much better. During the afternoon, in the wet, we took the opportunity to understand the grip of the track, which is really higher than at Assen. The new coating makes a real difference. We also tried to have a good feeling in case it rained on Saturday. In these conditions, I think a place in Q2 is possible. In the dry, the gaps are so close that it promises to be difficult compared to previous races. But everything is possible. »
