After impressive winter testing, then two victories obtained during the inaugural Grands Prix in Qatar and Argentina, Vinales was solid leader of the World Championship. After a brief misstep in Texas and some difficulties in Jerez, he rode the crest of the wave again by winning at Le Mans, then finishing second at Mugello.

The machine stalled in Catalonia, with a modest tenth place at the finish, 24 seconds behind the winner Andrea Dovizioso. Qualified eleventh at Assen, he brilliantly moved up to fifth position on the eleventh lap, then 3.8 behind the leader. Johann zarco. He then preceded Andrea Dovizioso, who subsequently moved up to second place, 0.1 behind the first Valentino Rossi.

So far everything was going well, but Maverick fell on the twelfth lap, without understanding the reason. The word “pressure” was of course mentioned, however it seems useful to wait for the results of the German Grand Prix which will take place this Sunday to be able to get a more precise idea.

The Sachsenring has never really been successful for Vinales, who has only finished third on the podium twice, in 125 in 2011 and in Moto3 in 2013.

According to Maverick Vinales, “ We arrive at the Sachsenring with a positive mentality. We have to keep in mind that after Assen's crash we are only four points behind the leader.

“We must learn from our mistakes and try not to repeat them. Now I just want to look to the future. I can't wait to be back on my bike, preparing for the race this weekend and, of course, our goal will be to win, not just to be on the podium. We must focus on regaining our leading position in the championship. »

According to team manager Massimo Meregalli, “ Just after the mixed weekend in Assen, we arrive in Germany ready to get back on track. Maverick and Valentino are extremely motivated to score as many points as possible this weekend.

“They are both battling for the championship lead as we approach the mid-season summer break. Both of our drivers felt competitive in last week's race and we are determined to continue the work this weekend so we can compete up front.

“The Sachsenring is a very special circuit which is narrow and has a slow nature. It will therefore be important to find a good set-up that suits the new surface on Friday during free practice, in order to prepare for the race on Sunday. »
