Following his two podiums at Mugello and Assen, Petrucci continues his impressive momentum. Already on the front row during the last two Grands Prix, he has just qualified in second position at the Sachsenring, ceding pole position to Marc Marquez in the wet by only a tenth of a second.

The first day took place normally, without brilliance, although with the eighth time of the first dry session, 0.3 behind the best time ofAndrea Dovizioso. The second session in the wet was rewarded with the fourth fastest time.

The third session, the one which determines the first 10 qualified directly for Q2, went significantly less well and Danilo failed in twelfth position. He had to go through Q1, which he did without problem, setting the best time and qualifying with flying colors.

Danilo during FP3:

This experience of the wet track just before Q2 was particularly useful to him during the second session because he was immediately on the pace. After taking the advantage, he was overtaken by Jonas Folger and Dani Pedrosa, but then regained first place. It was only at the end of the session that Marc Marquez dislodged him, but Petrucci maintained a very good second position.

According to Danilo Petrucci, “ I'm very happy to be on the front line because it was really a great fight. I came from Q1 and had a good pace. It was a good fight with Marquez, but in the end he was smarter.

“I’m happy to start from the front row. Tomorrow we will see the weather conditions, but I feel great confidence in both the wet and the dry.

“What I try to do is find confirmation and always stay with the leaders. Right now, I'm not obsessed with winning. The important thing is to always stay ahead. I know that sooner or later I will find the weekend where I manage to beat them all

“In the rain, I am more competitive, but I prefer a dry race. We still have a lot to test, but the important thing is to be fast in both conditions and to manage to get into the top 10 if it rains tomorrow.

“With the resurfacing they have done a great job and in the wet there is great grip. But I felt a drop in tire performance after a few laps, although I would like to have confirmation because in the morning the track was dirty, and because of my weight and my driving style I stress the tires a lot. tires. »
